Things We Saw Today: Guillermo del Toro Made Sure the Fishman Had a Sexy Butt

Shape of Water

The Shape of Water was one of my favorite films this year. I find that all of del Toro’s movies have a fun sense of style and character. You can tell he carefully crafts his creatures to look realistic and not just like any other generic monster design. Well, apparently that attention to detail also includes…butts.

While making The Shape of Water creature design, del Toro asked the women in his life to make sure the creature’s butt was as sexy as possible.

“Every female in the del Toro household was crucial,” the director explained in one of the book’s packed-in interviews. “‘Too much derriere, not enough derriere, the shoulders are not beautiful enough.’ The butt we show abundantly in the movie. It was a very delicate sculpture process because it always had to be run by my household.” (via SyfyWire)

I appreciate this kind of attention to detail. Especially because del Toro was getting opinions from women about what would be attractive to (straight/bi) women in a man. It’s probably why the creature is very lean and not super ripped with Logan-style muscles. We all love to ogle at Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, but there is a reason we all want to marry Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Regardless of what you may think about The Shape of Water, there is no denying that del Toro has a unique vision that makes him one of the best in his field.

    • If your Harry Potter fanfiction of choice hasn’t updated in awhile, check out this Harry Potter erotica podcast. It features readings from different kinds of erotic pieces of fanfiction and as someone who loves her lemons…this sounds like a fun way to ignore people at the tail end of this holiday season. I’ll be waiting for the Dracomine stories. Yes, I’m trash I know. (via Bustle)
    • FX has signed on for a season of Ryan Murphy’s show Pose, which will feature a historic number of trans actors and actresses in the series. Regardless of how you may feel about Murphy’s shows, he is one of the few producers out there who will make interesting and compelling casting choices. Let’s not forget he brought Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett onto our screens together. (via Deadline)
    • Do you love Pride & Prejudice? Do you love animals? Have you ever wished you could combine the two into new heights of literary adorableness? Well, here you go.  Enjoy the adorable.

Are you still wishing you were in bed binge watching something instead of being at work this Wednesday evening?
