FREDDIE MERCURY died on this day in 1991. The extraordinary showman had last been seen in public at the 1990 BRIT Awards looking pale and drawn but it is far better to remember him in photographs taken by his partner Jim Hutton in his garden a few months before he passed away, smiling in the sunshine with his cats.
