Deadpool Director Tim Miller Wants a Spider-Man Crossover – There’s also talk of bringing the X-Men and the Avengers back together.
If there’s one thing that the Deadpool movie proved, it’s that comic book superhero characters can co-exist hilariously and somewhat peacefully in the same film. We got to watch Deadpool team up with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (and poke fun at his own movie’s budget in the process)–and now, director Tim Miller is hopeful that Spider-Man could be a character who makes an appearance in Wade Wilson’s world.
During the Deadpool Blu-Ray release press day, Miller said that he and producer Simon Kinberg “have been trying to build bridges” between Sony and Marvel. Kinberg added, “If it were even remotely possible, we will find a way’ cause we’d would love to see it.” And that’s not the only crossover that Miller and Kinberg are hopeful about–they’re also pushing for a long-awaited reunion with the X-Men and the Avengers.
“I would love to, someday, in part heal the rift between the world of X-Men and the world of Avengers,” Miller said in an interview with Crave. Kinberg was in agreement on the idea. “There’s so much crossover in the comics, it would be neat to one day see those characters share a movie. It would be fun to all team-up one day, somehow, together if that could work.”
20th Century Fox (which owns the X-Men) and Marvel (which owns the Avengers) have had a famously contentious relationship–but the duo behind Deadpool could be the very team that mends the rift between the two studios, especially given the strong relationships they’ve forged at Fox and Marvel. Kinberg has also worked as producer on some of the X-Men movies, while Miller’s visual effects company has lent its skills to sequences for Marvel movies–one of the most recent being Thor: The Dark World.
All that being said–are we sure Deadpool would allow himself to be tamed for a PG-13 movie? I’m not so sure about that.
