Coding Dojo, Bellevue College Partner for Coding Boot Camps

Coding Dojo, a pioneer of coding boot camps, and Bellevue College Continuing Education have announced a partnership aimed at delivering continuing education courses that will cover increasingly in-demand programming languages and technologies.
The new classes will take place at Bellevue College with Coding Dojo providing the curriculum, instructors, and access to its online platform.
Mark Velijkov, a product manager for Bellevue College has expressed his excitement at partnering with Coding Dojo:
“We have always prided ourselves on providing quality programs that are aligned with the needs of our high tech employers. By bringing on full-time Coding Dojo instructors immersed in the evolving tech space, we know we’ll be able to arm our students with the most in-demand technologies.”
As reported by Geek Wire’s Clare McGrane, the new classes are a direct reaction to the fact that “universities and colleges are straining to keep up” with the demand for trained software engineers.
The University of Washington, McGrane writes, is the number one choice for incoming students. The university, which is “bursting at the seams,” will soon start construction on a second building to house its growing computer science department.
However, schools like Bellevue College don’t have the same resources as institutions like the University of Washington, and increasingly turn to partnerships such as the one struck up between Bellevue and Coding Dojo.
Coding Dojo CEO Richard Wang mirrored this sentiment, saying:
“Coding skills are rapidly becoming a requirement in all industries and we want to give as many students as possible the opportunity to learn something that unlocks creativity and opens new career pathways.”
Kevin Saito, meanwhile, has expanded on Coding Dojo’s future, hinting at possible partnerships with other universities by saying that they are “looking to partner with other folks that are progressive minded and outcome based, like Bellevue College.”
According to Market Wired, Bellevue College and Coding Dojo will run two courses, one titled Ruby on Rails running from September 2016 to January 2017, and the other, the JAVA/MEAN course, from November 2016 to February 2017. Each course will include three modules covering different aspects of the programming stack. The cost will be $ 1,299 for an individual module or $ 3,500 for all three.
The Chicago Tribune added that there is a thriving market for coding schools in Chicago. The Tribune’s Ally Marotti cites other programs that have been bought up by large institutions, including Dev Bootcamp and Chicago-based Starter League, which were acquired by Kaplan Inc. and Fullstack Academy, respectively. There has also been an abundance of new programs in recent months with Northwestern University announcing the launch of a new coding boot camp last week.
The flipside, however, is that General Assembly, a New York-based boot camp, has announced layoffs this week to 50 of their more than 700 employees nationwide.
Coding Dojo was founded in 2012 and moved its headquarters to Bellevue in 2015, with the company maintaining other locations in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Dallas. Bellevue College has been around longer, with the state-assisted community college having been founded in 1966.
