Amazon.com is down: ‘We’re sorry! An error occurred when we tried to process your request’ (Update: It’s back)
Amazon.com is having a little trouble loading today. Amazon Web Services and Amazon Prime Music also seem to be struggling, while the company’s regional sites, like Amazon.ca, appear to be working just fine.
We first spotted the outage at 11:20 a.m. Pacific. The site is displaying a generic apologetic message: “We’re sorry! An error occurred when we tried to process your request. Rest assured, we’re working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. If you were trying to make a purchase, please check Your Account to confirm that the order was placed. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Of course, in this case, the “request” is simply to access the largest Internet-based retailer in the U.S. Looks like Americans will have to delay their online shopping urges for a little bit.
Amazon rarely suffers outages, which makes sense given how critical its site is to its business. But it does happen.
In August 2013, for example, Amazon was down for some 40 minutes. This outage reportedly cost the company $ 5 million.
We have contacted Amazon for more information.
Update at 11:38 Pacific: Amazon.com is working once again. The outage thus lasted some 20 minutes — not very long by outage standards, but still significant for a retail giant. We will update you again if Amazon shares details on what may have caused the issue.
