We sort through the April Fools’ Day products so you don’t have to!
The tidal wave of April Fools’ Day gags has arrived. And rather than let myself be drowned in a sea of misery, I have decided to grab my board and surf the inanity in the hopes that I can get into the spirit of the day.
After all, some people worked really hard on these things. And I will confess that yes, some of them are amusing. I suppose I should take some hope from the fact that many of these companies are self-aware enough to understand how absurd they sound the other 365 days of the year (it’s Leap Year!) and can poke fun at themselves.
So let us draw the curtain and bask in the splendor of this year’s comedic gold:
BINGE ON UP, T-MOBILE: An early front-runner for the best of the day. There are hipster beards. Subtle jokes in small print. And possibly incorrect use of the “Netflix and chill” line. Most importantly, it reminds us that tech may be turning us into a nation of imbeciles.
ROMAN BLIND SKIRT, ENGLISHBLINDS: A skirt that you can raise and lower to adapt to the awful British weather. I had to email and confirm this was a gag. It is.
LICKABLE PHOTOS, OPENTABLE: Lick the photos on your smartphone to sample the taste of a meal before you make a reservation.
ZINEO, THE VIMEO ZINE: From 4K streaming to a hand-drawn magazine. And it’s bespoke!
#GETSANDSTONED, ONEPLUS: Puts sandpaper on slippery stuff so it’s not so slippery.
V-LCRO, LEXUS: Velcro meets Lexus seats.
MODEL W, TESLA: Elon Musk brings you a smartwatch.
PRANK YOUR FRIENDS, LYFT: LOL.
INFINITE MPG CAR REVIEW: Pas mal!
SEND A POTATO TO A FRIEND, CHILL:
More to come throughout the day! Whether you like it or not.
