Nikon has announced the launch of a new online photography and video training program meant to further the skills of Nikon camera owners of all levels of knowledge.

Nikon School Online has officially launched as an expansion on the company’s current nationwide Nikon School program.  Participants can view courses from a computer, tablet, or smartphone, allowing users to increase their skills and learn new techniques.

The company currently offers three courses that offer new skills and increase creativity while challenging students to take better photos and videos.  More course offerings are expected to come in the future.  Two of these courses feature the works of professional photographers like Nikon Ambassadors Joe McNally and Tamara Lackey, who will offer their expertise to easy-to-follow lessons that will help students learn to further their own skills.

The courses offer participants the ability to learn at their own pace and will be available through 2021, writes Hillary Grigonis for Digital Trends.

“Without traditional geographical constraints, Nikon School Online can reach a wider variety of photographers eager to get the most of their images and video,” Kosuke Kawaura, Nikon’s director of marketing and planning, said in the official announcement. “From amateurs using their first DSLR to enthusiasts eager to master their technique, these new online classes will educate passionate photographers and inspire them to capture the things they love.”

Available classes include the “Hands-on with the SB-5000 Speedlight.”  Taught by Nikon Ambassador and creative lighting master Joe McNally, the class takes a closer look at the key features of the newest Speedlight available from the company and offers quick lessons on a number of techniques, including on-camera flash, bounce flash, off-camera flash, and radio control flash.  McNally will show students how he uses the camera while in the field while at the same time offering tips and helpful techniques to users.

Nikon Ambassador and lifestyle photographer Tamara Lackey will be featured in the “Photographing Children and Pets” class to share her secrets for photographing the two subjects considered to be the hardest to capture on film.  Practical advice will be given for obtaining natural expressions while shooting, as well as posing and lighting that both looks and feels natural.

For those just getting started, the “Getting Started with your Nikon DSLR” will help users get ahead of the learning curve.  The 15-minute video course will teach users basic camera functions as well as the advantages of NIKKOR lenses and accessories.  In addition, techniques will be shown that can help users increase the level of their photos from the first day.  A basic tutorial on Nikon SnapBridge will also be offered for those who would like to share their images.

Those who register their Nikon Speedlight by the end of this month, or have already done so, will earn a free redemption code for the Speedlight class.  Without this code, the course comes at a cost of $ 50.  A kids and pets course is available for the same price, and a quick start course for $ 15.
