The Ivy Dean has launched a unique online class on college admissions that combines a basic, self-paced course with the counseling firm providing additional options to help college seniors, including live help sessions and personal chats with The Ivy Dean team.

The new class will be led by Drusilla Blackman, a former Dean of Admissions with forty years of experience at schools like at Columbia and Harvard. She is also the founder of The Ivy Dean, an independent college admissions counseling firm, together with Chase Staub.

The class will guide students through the college admissions process, including lessons on how to prepare their applications, how to develop a strategy, how to write essays, and how to “wow” with their supplemental materials.

According to Chase Staub, writing in the Huffington Post, students will work through each step in the college admissions process together with instructors and finish the class with completed college applications fit for top colleges.

The Ivy Dean will answer common student questions about what colleges are looking for, how to stand out from the other applicants, what goes into a college essay, the roles that letters of recommendation play, and the importance of interviews.

The self-paced online course will begin June 1 and continue to be available to students throughout the 2016-2017 school year, according to the course’s homepage.

The basic course costs $ 249. The course plus additional live question and answer sections costs $ 749, and wth personal help from The Ivy Dean, the course will cost $ 1,249.

One testimonial on The Ivy Dean website, from a Class of 2015 Cornell student, reads:

Mrs. Blackman was truly an asset to my college application. She helped me improve my essays, figure out which colleges were right for me, and she kept me on track throughout the entire admissions process. With her help, I was able to submit a winning application to several top universities. As a result, I was admitted to (and will attend) an excellent engineering school.

The Ivy Dean team also offers services for high school seniors including reviewing personal interests and activities to strengthen applications, evaluating grades and test scores, helping in the selection of best fit colleges, finalizing a college list, helping to recommend essay topics and content, editing essays, providing assistance with letters of recommendations, creating activity lists, preparing for college interviews, and reviewing all application materials before their submission.

The Ivy Dean also provides services to high school underclassmen who want help selecting courses and extracurricular activities, says the service’s homepage.

Many hopeful high school students don’t have access to quality college admissions help, especially as many schools are cutting guidance counselors from the budget. Acceptance rates at Ivy League colleges continue to drop, with this year’s numbers a record low. With the college admissions process becoming increasingly selective, many students are seeking additional help in maximizing the impact of their college applications.
