THERE was some doubt as to whether the gig would even happen. It was February 10, 1972, and Britain, deep into a national miners’ strike, was in the grip of blackouts and power cuts. Outside on the Kingston bypass many street lights were out, and the local power station was down to its last three weeks of coal.
