Things We Saw Today: Rogue One Scores $33 Million Overseas in Two Days

I know it’s not surprising that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has already made a lot of money, but it’s still incredible to hear the amount it’s already pulled in. The film has already been released in 47 countries and raked in $ 33 million so far overseas. According to Deadline, $ 5 million came from the U.K., $ 3.6 million came from Australia, and $ 3.1 million came from both Germany and France on Thursday night alone. Since the movie opens today in the U.S., you can bet those numbers will start coming in within the next few days. Have you already seen it? Check out our review here and then head here to discuss.

  • Former Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir shares his thoughts on Yuri on Ice, the sports anime centering on the high-pressure world of figure skating and featuring a beautifully-executed LGBTQIA love story. “I broke my rule about one episode per day because I physically couldn’t stop watching. I love figure skating, its funny little world, and Japan, so even watching the first episode made me feel so at home and happy,” he said. (via The Geekiary)
  • A female composure has never been nominated for the Academy Award for Original Score, but this recent crop is looking to change that. “What films you get to work on is a roll of the dice, like it is for everybody,” said Academy music-branch governor Laura Karpman. “But there is change in the air, and opportunities for women like I haven’t seen, ever. People want this within the Academy, and within the business as well.” (via Variety)
  • In an interview with British chat show host, Graham Norton, Felicity Jones reveals her concern about fan tattoos. (via YouTube)

  • The Hollywood Reporter may not have gotten their animators roundtable right, but their latest cover is something to celebrate. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Donald Glover, Issa Rae and Damien Chazelle get together for a conversation that you should definitely check out here.
